Monarch Powerplant

4x5 film, Architectural Photography

These are images of a building that stood in an industrial site in Bay City, Michigan. The building photographed here was the Monarch Power Plant. It was constructed in 1893 and operated only for a decade, powering street cars through out Bay City. The Monarch building was the last building to come down on the industrial site, it was demolished in 2013.

There was a number of other massive structures that stood in the industrial works site; they were owned and operated by the Industrial Brownhoist Company that built some of the largest cranes in the world. Unfortunately, those buildings were taken down in 2007 before being photographed.
