This is a collection of present day and historical images merged together to show how time can change so much but then leave other pieces nearly untouched, providing a peak into our past and a reminder of where we have been. The objective was to convey that, in many cases, we have the power to decide what will remain and what will fade.

The historical images were purchased from the Grand Rapids, Michigan Public Library. The images were carefully studied to determined the exact location the image was taken from nearly a century earlier. The Present day image was intended to be as close as physically possible to the exact point of view of the original image.

It was very tedious and, at times, very frustrating trying to find the exact point of view the historical image was taken from. This meant determining possibly how tall the photographer had been, were they two steps the the left or right...were they standing exactly where that tree is growing today? there were countless variables to consider.

"Seeing through my lens the same angle they saw through theirs—The thrill was worth the work—and looking like a crazy person photographing the same building for hours on end in public."
